Welcome to Monday morning motivation, the series of videos that’s designed to help you get going feel better and get shit done. Today’s thought is there is only two ways to motivate anyone, you can either motivate someone with pain, or pleasure, carrot, or stick moving away or moving towards, they are the only two ways to motivate anyone. And pain is quite often more of a motivator for some people than pleasure. And what we’ve spoken about during this set of videos is more about different ways to motivate yourself towards something. Today, I want to look about motivating yourself with away from techniques. And I’ve got two or three main ideas here for you on this. The first is thinking about the consequences if you don’t do something. So if you’re trying to motivate yourself to pick up the phone, and make a phone call, think about what happens if you don’t make sales. If you don’t make money. If you don’t do it, use the away from motivation to get yourself to do what you need to do. The second is to have a bet with someone that you can do it. The idea behind this is that you will take action because you don’t want to lose the bet. It’s an away from motivation. I don’t want this to happen. So I will take action. So if you want to lose weight, place a bet with someone you know, for 100 pounds, that you won’t lose that weight by that date. Now we’ll give you more motivation than anything else. Well, there’s even websites for this one of them is called stick, which is all about placing a bet on something you want to do, ie getting 1000 YouTube subscribers. If I don’t get 1000 YouTube subscribers, then I lose 500 pounds, and you put up that money and it goes towards an anti charity or it goes towards you lose the money and it goes towards something you hate. One of the best ways to motivate yourself is with away from motivation. So whether that’s a bet with someone else, whether it’s a thing like stick.com, where you put up amount of money that you lose if you don’t achieve what you do, whether it’s thinking about what goes wrong if you don’t do it. Like if I get overly fat, I’m going to die early, and I won’t be with my wife for long. That motivates me to get out running. Sometimes you need away from motivation, not just towards so think about what goes wrong if you don’t do this, and then take that energy to make stuff happen.
